The course starts on the scenic Beartooth Highway south of Red Lodge and ends at Coulson Park in Billings, Montana Peaks to Prairie Triathlon Map: A triathlon like no other, Peaks to Prairie treats runners, bikers and boaters to a motion picture of Montana's last best habitats. The 9 mile run begins at the Custer National Forest boundary. The road is framed by the majestic, rugged Beartooth Mountains. The Bike: Cyclists take over amidst cheers in downtown historic Red Lodge, riding 43 miles through farm and ranch country to Riverside Park south of Laurel. The Paddle: Kayakers and canoeists push-off from the boat ramp and paddle for 22 miles on the winding Yellowstone River, the last of America's undammed natural waterways. The finish is the boat ramp at Coulson Park. Peaks to Prairie Duathlon Map: The inaugural Peaks to Prairie Duathlon race course will start with the triathlon for the same 9-mile run into Red Lodge. At the run-bike transition, duathletes will bike for 56 miles. Duathlon cyclists will turn right on Thiel Road (just before Riverside Park) and continue along a rolling course that skirts the Yellowstone River. The triathletes will be visible on the Yellowstone. The duathletes will transition their bike-run near Norm's Island at Riverfront Park, south of Billings. The 6.5-mile run will take athletes through portions of the park to the South Frontage Road/Garden Avenue/Belknap/Charlene for the finish into Coulson Park. Triathlon teams - 2-4 athletes NOTE TO ATHLETES: We now have a transportation contractor who is now taking reservations to transport you and your gear to the race start and pick up your gear from the various transitions points.
